New Haven Job Corps Students Help Olympians

A New Haven Job Corps Transportation Department driver drove that extra mile towards helping others. Anna Killian took ten students to volunteer at the Special Olympic Summer Games held at Southern CT University just down the street from the New Haven Job Corps Center.  “Any time I am able to give back to the community I’m there”, said Killian, of the Transportation Department for the New Haven Job Corps Center. “If there’s an opportunity out there for our students, just let me know, Killian enthusiastically stated. “I love being able to expose our students to different opportunities.”

The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

New Haven Job Corps students spent the day helping Special Olympic athletes prepare for their various events, and cheered them on during their competition. “I love helping others”, said C.N. A. student, Andre Harris; “It makes me feel good inside.”
