NEW HAVEN JOB CORPS CENTER ANNOUNCES EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR AWARD

Alison Heery, Culinary Arts Instructor at the New Haven Job Corps Center, has been named Employee of the Year by Career Systems Development Corporation (CSD).   CSD is the primary contracted operator of nine Job Corps Centers, including New Haven, and acts as a sub-contractor on three additional Job Corps Centers throughout the nation.

Alison Heery, Culinary Arts Instructor at the New Haven Job Corps Center has been named Employee of the Year by Career Systems Development Corporation (CSD).  CSD is the primary contracted operator of nine Job Corps Centers, including New Haven, and acts as a subcontractor on three additional Job Corps Centers throughout the nation. 

“Chef”, as she is known to her students, was honored at a staff recognition ceremony this fall, for her energy and creativity in the classroom and her willingness to do what it takes to help young people improve their lives.

“Chef” is always giving that little ‘extra something’ to ensure success,” said Renee Venturino, Center Business & Community Liaison.  “She works numerous hours for the benefit of others and goes above and beyond the call of duty assisting at various community events.  She works numerous hours in overtime for the benefit of others.  Many times, Chef Heery goes above and beyond the call of duty, assisting in various community events,” said Renée Venturino, Business & Community Liaison.  “Chef is always giving that little ‘extra something’ to ensure success.”

Under the guidance of Chef Heery, the Culinary Arts class was the recipient of the “Presidents Volunteer Service Award”, the more than 300 hours of volunteering that she and her culinary students did at the Connecticut Food Bank during this past year.

 When students became interested in her hobby of knitting, Chef stayed after the training day and created a knitting club to teach interested students her craft.  After finding there was a need to assist students in mathematics, Chef offered her time again to tutor those in need. 

“I absolutely love my job”, said an exuberant Heery.  “I love getting up in the morning and coming here to work, where I know I am making a difference in the lives of my students.  I have the best job in the world!”

Employee’s of the Year enjoy a special parking space close to the front door, a bonus check, award certificate, and is recognized on plaques throughout the Center.

 The fully accredited New Haven Job Corps Center provides career technical training to more than 200 students per year, helping to prepare young people to be successful in the workplace. The opportunity to earn a GED or high school diploma to enrolled students is available, if needed.   Eligible students attend on a federal scholarship and in according to Job Corps guidelines. While most students reside on campus, local students may consider non-residential status.  The New Haven Job Corps Center also partners with local business who offer our students Work-Based Learning opportunities and internships.
