During Grafton Job Corps’ May open house, EMT students showed off their life-saving skills in a mock disaster drill.
We need help…I said S-T-A-T…know what I’m sayin’?”
No sooner said than done, and there were EMS (Emergency Medical Services) students everywhere, treating head and neck injuries, broken bones, internal injuries, a heart attack, and an accident induced labor. Broken down into eight ambulance teams, the EMS’ checked out the scene, talked to the injured, determined the extent of each injury and then moved quickly and efficiently from the most dire life threatening injuries and wounds, to the life giving mother, to the life altering shock victims.
All of this took place under the watchful eyes of their instructor, Ms. Amy Parker, EMS Instructor and three women from the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT): Ms. Clare Garabedian, CERT Director (MRC), Ms. Lois Luniewicz, Grafton Health Agent/ Board of Health Agent (MRC), and Ms. Trish Parent, Grafton Public Health Nurse and MRC Coordinator.
The three women were present to see firsthand the talent, skill and resourcefulness available to the Grafton Community in the event disaster strikes and the CERT Team is overwhelmed with medical emergencies. The mock disaster at Job Corps came through with flying colors. Discussions about Junior Medical Response volunteers being blended into the CERT program in Grafton may be in Job Corps’ future.
Excellent job everyone!
