On June 1, 2011, Smyth County News and Messenger published an articles that highlighted the Student Government Association Leadership Conference in Harrisonburg, Va.  Nine other Job Corps Centers participated at the Leadership Conference at the Horizons Outdoor Learning Center.

National Director of Job Corps, Edna Primrose attended the conference and spoke to the students regarding the importance of keeping a positive attitude.  Throughout the week, students were challenged to step outside their comfort zones through various activities.  The theme of the the conference was “Good and Safe Jobs for Everyone.”
