Blue Ridge Job Corps Highlighted in Local Newspaper for Fight Against Breast Cancer

November 10, 2011 – Bright skies and a brisk wind greeted the 38 participants in last Saturday’s Blue Ridge Job Corps “Make a Difference 5K’ sponsored by the school’s Blue Ridge Against Drugs club.  Ranging in age from 7 to 69, the runners completed the 3.1 mile course for a good cause, raising money for Breast Cancer Research.  Medals were awarded to the top male and female overall finishers; who were 63 year old Jim Hess and 45 year old Betsy Hoofnagle.  Medals were presented to the top male and female runners in each age category:
Carol Parsons, Center Director of Blue Ridge Job Corps said, “This turned out to be such a great event and we are very grateful for all of the support from the community.  We raised over $1500 for Breast Cancer Research and we hope to have an even better event next year!”
The check to Susan B. Komen Foundation was presented to District Leader, Sherry Atkins, during a special Break Cancer Awareness assembly on November 10, 2011.

The article regarding the 5K event was posted in the October 22 edition of the Smyth County News and Meesenger.  www.southwestvatoday.com
