On Wednesday, November 3, 2010 eight members of Saint Alphonsus Church, located just a stones throw up the road from Woodstock, visited Center. The members, all interested in volunteering their time to help tutor students in reading and math, met with Mrs. Nixon, Center Director, Mrs. Bush, BCL, and Mr. Belcher, Career Education Manager to discuss setting up arrangements for tutoring.
The group includes a retired government worker, accountants, youth workers and a retired NASA space engineer. The church members are interested in beginning tutoring with Woodstock students on a weekly basis both on Center and at Saint Alphonsus Church.
The members received a tour of the Center following the meeting and had the opportunity to observe students in the classroom. A schedule is currently being configured with the volunteers and a Meet and Greet luncheon event is being planned in coming weeks for the members to have a chance to meet some of the students they will be working with and kick things off.
Saint Alphonsus, we look forward to working with you and thank you for your time and help in ensuring a better future for Woodstock students!
