On Saturday October 22nd, 201, National Make a Difference Day, the Woodland students demonstrated they make a difference in their community. The students split into two groups to support two very different projects, partnering with AmeriCorps.
One group, inspired by the newly formed Woodland Science Club journeyed to Farring-Baybrook Park to remove invasive plant species from a grove of indigenous trees. This work is important because this park in in the watershed for Masonville Cove which feeds into the Chesapeake Bay. Lead by Ms. Farmer, the group demonstrated team work untangling vines and branches.
The other group, lead by Ms. Blue and Ms. Moreland travelled to the Academy of Success in west Baltimore. The Academy of Success is a new community based center that provides wrap around services to residents in Baltimore. The students demonstrated some of the skills they are learning in the trades by scraping, painting and removing stucco. If you were wondering which students were involved, just look for green paint on their shoes!
The consensus of the students at days end was it is great to be involved! When are we going back?
