Woodland’s very own Hotel & Lodging students Tracey Hawkins and Natice Jones were the only student performers during an annual appreciation luncheon sponsored by the Washington DC Outreach & Admissions and Career Transition Services’ on Thursday, June 10th, held at the Kellogg Conference Hotel at Gallaudet University.
Both performers were inspiring. Way to go Ladies!
During the luncheon the audience heard from former Job Corps student Tawana Benn and Nicole Drayton as they spoke about their experience and success while in the program.
Guest speaker, David Ferrell a Flatwood Job Corps Center Alumnus, credits much of his success to what he learned during his time spent as a carpentry student and as an employee of Job Corps. Currently the Director of Law Enforcement and Investigations, Mr. Ferrell challenges Job Corps students to “not to be the exception but the rule” and “keep your head down and focus.”
As the luncheon concluded, the following area businesses and community partners were recognized for their support: CVS, Systems & Methods, Inc., In & Out Painting, The Washington Home, Forman Mills, Community Connections, DC Child and Family Services, First Home Care/CFS, Friendship Public Charter School, Jones Independent Living, and North Capitol Collaborative, Inc.
