RIVERTON, WY – Instead of telling someone what they “should” have done when they feel down, let them know how much you admire their ability to push forward. Encourage others to envision and pursue goals. Instead of commiserating about a crummy day, help friends visualize a better tomorrow. These are the words of Encouragement, High Expectations and Hope that Wind River students are learning via this week’s TalkAbout e-news.
Taken from Psychology Today, the Language of Respect provides eleven key words that help us each develop a culture of mutual respect, where we regard the feelings of others, and value their abilities and inner qualities. Students are asked to apply the language to relationships with family, team-mates, at work, and even on themselves.
This TalkAbout Respect is another part in a series of discussions about empathy, racism, communications and more that help set the stage for the anti-bullying campaign launching later this year.
Its is especially timely as we head into a long, celebratory weekend and we ask students to respect themselves by being safe, respect their goals through distance learning, and respect their futures.
