Louisville, KY-The VYPE magazine article states that some dreams take a little longer to come true. Yves Jean Baptiste has just completed his course in facilities maintenance at the Whitney M. Young Job Corps Center in Simpsonville. But his journey to fullfill his dreams is just beginning.
In August, he will head to Campbellsville University, where he not only will be pursuing a college degree, he will be playing collegiate soccer. “I always wanted to go to college and play,” the 23-year old native of Haiti says, “I am also a Christian, and I want to grow in Christ. Soccer is something I had the skills to do. It’s a gift I want to use for God.”
After graduating from high school in Norwalk, Conn., Baptiste moved to Florida. When he lost his job there, he looked to Job Corps for a new opportunity. Baptiste states it’s a good program. I came here and took care of business, and it opened a door.”
Campbellsville has provided a parital scholarship for Baptiste, which along Pell grants and student loans, will allow him to attend. Ultimately, he hopes to become a minister.
