Whiney Young Pharmacy tech student, Mollie Hayes, took action that will propel her for a promising future. After graduating from high school in Grayson County, Kentucky Hayes was not really doing anything positive or making good choices. But after a friend told Hayes about the great opportunities at Job Corps he had received, she looked into creating a career for herself.
May 1, 2017 was Mollie’s first day at Whitney Young Job Corps and since then Mollie has earned several credentials in the healthcare industry. She recently passed her Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT) which is a nationally accredited certification exam for pharmacy technicians offered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). Mollie is now licensed to work in all 50 states as a Pharmacy Technician. In addition Mollie has earned her NARCAN certification, which allows Hayes to help individuals who have overdosed on Opioids drugs. While attending the Whitney Young Job Corps Center, Hayes has also earned the following certifications: HIPPA, CPR, First Aid, Blood Bourne Pathogen and she knows the top 200 drugs both generic and brand names.
While at Whitney Young Job Corps Hayes enjoyed making Chap Stick, vapor rubs, and IV labs in her pharmacy tech class. Hayes participated in the Work Based Learning program where she worked at Pharmacy Alternatives gaining more experience with mail-order prescriptions. Hayes is very thankful for Whitney Young Job Corps, “Job Corps has helped me develop my skills that I plan to apply later in my life. It has helped me really sit and get a clear view of my goals and what I want to do with my life. Because of Job Corps, I am now CPhT and before long I will be a certified nursing assistant”.
The Whitney Young Job Corps Center gave Hayes the opportunity to display her leadership skills in the dorm and on SGA – Student Government Association.
Hayes stated the best part of Whitney Young Job Corps is all the people and the variety of students. “The experience of meeting and working with people from Mexico, Africa and Jamaica has been very cool. I would not have had this at any other place,” said Hayes. Hayes plans to continue her technical training at Whitney Young Job Corps and pursue her CNA and CMA credentials.
