It’s hard to find workers now, but Whitney M. Young Human Resources is pounding the pavement to make sure our students have the best people available.
Michelle Hendrickson, Human Resources Manager for Whitney M. Young, attended a job fair this week at Louisville’s Nia Center to recruit some new workers for the campus.
But she got so much more.
“They had ten candidates slated to come in and meet with us,” Hendrickson said. “We were able to meet with them, then we also made a connection with an employer…They’re interested in offering some of our students some work. Also, while we were there, this wasn’t something we were looking for, but we found some parents who wanted to know about our program for their students.”
Hendrickson said she had hoped for a few more employment candidates, but it’s simply difficult to recruit right now, and a big part of recruiting is continuing to get the word out.
To that end, Whitney M. Young will be looking at other job fairs to attend in areas like Eminence or Frankfort, and will continue attending Nia Center job fairs monthly.
“The more that we publicize and the more that people get to know us on a regular basis, I feel confident we’ll have more candidates,” Hendrickson said.
