Whitney M. Young Job Corps Center’s culinary arts student, Tiffany Johnson, from Memphis Tennessee understands the impact diet plays on her community’s health.
Ms. Johnson came to Whitney M. Young Job Corps with a high school diploma earning an above average G.P.A. after which she attended Southwest Tennessee Community College. Johnson quickly learned that college was expensive and “not for me”. After making little to no money as a server at a local restaurant she decided to complete her education and trade at Whitney M. Young Job Corps. Currently, Tiffany Johnson works in Louisville, Kentucky at Brown Forman under the direction of Executive Chef, Mat Shalenko, in their dining facility. She has competed and placed with the Iron Chef Competition as well as interned at Crown Plaza throughout her work based learning experience by way of Chef Kris Cole.
During her residency at Whitney M. Young Job Corps Center Tiffany Johnson filled several leadership roles and participated in the Women of Whitney, Student Government Association Sergeant of Arms plus vice president of her dorm.
Johnson plans to open her own restaurant that will serve a healthy menu to her neighborhood. She has learned the importance of individuals caring for their physical body through exercise and diet. However in her community due to social and economic barriers healthy menu options may be limited. A healthy diet can reduce a person’s medical needs. Johnson recognizes the cost of health care is expensive. Her future customers’ health will improve due to eating fresh and healthier foods.
Tiffany Johnson’s people skills, respect for others and team player approach will allow the sky to be the limit for what her future will hold.
Healthy menus matter! Go Tiffany Johnson, a successful student with Whitney M. Young Job Corps.
