Students from Whitney M. Young Jr. Job Corps got a taste of what’s involved in state government when they recently visited the Kentucky State Capitol in Frankfort.
Career Preparation Period students Nakiyah Auston, Kenneth Tilley, Connor Jackson, Jermico Andrews, Mark Cleveland, Jalen Samuels, Lamarrion Petty and Brandon Barnes visited the State Capitol on February 7th. The Students were accompanied by Career Preparation Period/Career Transition Readiness Specialist/Instructor Ashley Taylor.
Students learned about the process of introducing, debating, passing and adopting new laws as well as the many programs and services operated by state government. They also learned a bit of history about the State Capitol and Kentucky geography by viewing displays from each county. Students also viewed a display of dolls made for each of the wives of the Kentucky governors.
Students received certificates from their legislator, Senator Paul Hornback, for their participation in this educational field trip.
