Community Partner: Shelbyville Pharmacy

Jason Underwood, owner and pharmacist at Shelbyville Pharmacy

It’s been a wild two years, and Whitney M. Young is lucky to have excellent partners to help weather the storm.

And when a vaccine to protect our students from COVID-19 became available, one community partner has gone above and beyond to help us make sure our students remain as safe as possible: Shelbyville Pharmacy.

“We developed a relationship with Shelbyville Pharmacy after I met the owner Jason Underwood,” said Health and Wellness Director Freda Davis. “They provide us with medications vaccinations and other supplies. They will deliver to us daily.”

For Underwood, it made sense to invest in a partner devoted to its work.

“The thing that has impressed me most about the staff at Whitney Young Job Corps is the level of care they have for the students,” he said.

When the need arose to inoculate our students, Underwood again stepped up to ensure we could make it happen.

“Nobody is without risk now,” Underwood said. “When you’re living in a communal situation, it’s much easier to pass those things from one person to another.”

As Davis tells it, it’s made a huge difference.

“I believe we would not have been as safe on our center without their flexibility and accommodating manner,” Davis said. “Jason and his staff have been wonderful to our staff and students and are very easy to work with.”
