Work-Based Learning provides on-the-job Experience for Amber Barrow

Whitney M. Young Jr. Job Corps Culinary Arts student Amber Barrow is getting quality on-the-job training and experience through a work-based learning internship at the Block Deli in Middletown, KY.  The Block Deli is owned by Brian and Kelli Schack.

Barrow, who is from Frankfort, KY began her WBL internship at the deli in late February, working three days a week.  As part of her internship, she is learning how to plan and prepare food for catering and the onsite deli.  Barrow currently is nearly half way through her Culinary training program.

The Schacks are committed to working with culinary students from Whitney M. Young Jr. Job Corps to give them the on-the-job experience they need to launch a culinary-related career.

In addition to training Barrow they are encouraging her to follow her dream of owning her own bakery and have given her suggestions about how she can further her baking education.

The Block Deli is just one of many work-based learning sites that offer the students at Whitney M. Young Jr. Job Corps the opportunity to augment their career technical training with hands-on job experience in their chosen career field.
