Our success in training and educating young adults is based, partly, on the partnerships that we build within the community and on Thursday, May 5, 2011, the Westover Job Corps Center Community Relations Council met to discuss the successes of the Westover Job Corps Center and to formally introduce the new Center Director to the community. Over 70 people attended the event that was held, in the Banquet Hall, at the Westover Job Corps Center. Guest speakers included State Representative Ben Swan, Andrew Melendez, and Director for the Holyoke Office of the Massachusetts Latino of Commerce, Col. Samuel “Bo” Mahaney, Westover Air Reserve Base and the Reverend Timothy Jones, at St. John’s Congregational Church in Springfield, MA.
Discussion revolved around the need for community and regional support for the students and their needs. The ideals of the Westover Community Relations Council includes: creation of sustainable vision and goals, development and strengthening of partnerships, address local needs while fostering employment and lifelong skills in students and designing a culture of commitment and stewardship.
