You have to say yes to learn from the best. That is what happened when Turner Job Corps (TJC) students in the Culinary Arts trade agreed to participate in the Auctions & Avocados fundraiser. The event, sponsored by the Women of Grace Connection, to benefit the Boys & Girls Club, Girls Inc., and HHGU, Inc. brought Chef Jerome Brown as the featured chef.
The event has been well publicized, with coverage in the Albany Herald, WALB, Albany CEO, and publicized on the Albany Technical College (ATC) website. All organizations included mention of Turner Job Corps students’ participation.
Culinary Arts students from ATC and TJC were invited to a cooking lesson with “Rome,” learning to make shrimp pancakes with an Asian inspired apricot sauce. The Chef related well to our students, as he said, “I grew up in the New Jersey projects.” He provided many tips on be punctual, being a professional, and having a “no excuses” mind set. A lesson from a Food Network chef, what a tasty tidbit to add to a resume.
