In Feb. of this year- 2011, Treasure Island Job Corps staff and students were honored to receive a visit from the office of Congress Woman Barbara Lee. The Congress Woman has established a Work Based Learning office in her Oakland office and has provided opportunity over the months for several students to job shadow and intern in her office.

The Congress Woman spoke to several students; including student Office Assistant student Antonaie Harris- a recent intern at the Congress Woman’s office, and students Jean Seda-Sancheze and Keith Prader.

Ms. Harris indicated that the visit “opened her eyes” to a brighter future and the atmosphere was uplifting, positive, powerful and hopeful.

The Congress Woman visited the Center, toured the facility and showed great encouragement for our new Solar programming and 1 acre organic farm- the Michelle Obama Green Acre!
