The Penn Foster class recently enjoyed an informative tour at the University of California Berkeley campus. The tour was led by a current UC Berkeley PhD student, who graciously gave his time to guide students throughout the college campus. The tour began at the entrance, “Sather Gate”, which students stood in awe of the vast campus. Throughout the day the Penn Foster students visited various education departments, museums, libraries, classrooms and historical landmarks. “It was nice to see things I don’t get to see in my everyday life” says student Jazmine Ceja. When the tour guide explained that a very small percent of African American students attended UC Berkeley campus, Penn Foster students responded by saying “we are going to change those number.” An empowering statement that speaks volumes about Job Corps students eager for academic success. After the tour, each student expressed they either wanted to attend UC Berkeley or some college. It is essential for students to visit college campuses in order to help them envision their future academic goals.
