Partnership with MEDA Yields Great Results

The Treasure Island Job Corps Office Administration office has partnered with MEDA. MEDA is the Mission Economic Development Agency focused on education and economic justice for local low income families. A past Office Administration graduate, Lisa Lopez, was on a Work Based Learning assignment at MEDA and was hired on as a full time employee. She started in the Free Tax Preparation unit as an intern, was hired on full time, and then promoted to Workforce Intake Coordinator. Our partnership also includes off site training in both information technology and banking. The IT program, known as the Mission Techies, is a class where trainees learn the ins and outs of IT, from opening up a computer and replacing components, to networking and installing, and fixing software. In the banking program trainees learn all the aspects of being a bank teller. They learn customer service, counting money, and what to do in case of a robbery. Trainees in both programs earn a $500 stipend upon completion. Our trainees were also featured in a local neighborhood news blog (link below). We hope our partnership will continue to lead to opportunities and careers for our trainees just like it did for Lisa.
