Carpentry Instructors Juan Roman and Carlos White worked with students on a Carpentry Mock up project. Through direct instructions, demonstration and hands-on training, students were given the opportunity to apply the skills they learned and built a false deck in the Carpentry yard.
“The structure in the yard is a false deck work for a concrete slab. This structure consists of the beam and posts system, using 4×4 ellis shores as post and 4×6 lumber as the beams which carry the load of the floor joist. The deck is sheeted with plywood which would be the platform to carry the rebar and any other trade materials before the concrete is placed. The Red up rights are slab grabbers designed to be used with 2×4 as fall protection”.
Through this project, students applied skills in mathematics through measurements and calculations and reading through plans and drawings. It also allowed the trainees to work as a team.
