It goes without saying that our staff have a very crucial job to train, retain and education our students. Treasure Island Job Corps has seen thousands of students come through our center, but for every student that shows up wanting to gain a trade or further their education, we plan to serve each individual until they are walking across the stage and receive their diploma and find stable employment.
Though graduation comes around twice a year, it never loses it touch. It’s a milestone in one’s life, no matter where you come from or the experiences that you had in the past, you succeed to get to this day. A enormous congratulations to those who reached this milestone, walked the stage and are now ready to start a new chapter in their life.
Treasure Island Job Corps was honored to have Senior Advisor on Education & Families to SF Mayor Lee, Hydra Mendoza as our Commencement Speaker. Her speech was both poignant and uplifting, telling the students that they “are the generation of doers” and encouraging them to use their education and the skills they learned at Job Corps to forward their local community and the world.
Our valedictorian, Francis Dela Cruz, gave an empowering speech about overcoming adversities, working passed those who doubt you and building a support system. Mr. Dela Cruz spoke highly of all the support he gathered here at TI and how he challenged himself with all that he has overcome. Francis has completed our CMA training and now is in our ACT program, furthering his education to ultimately become a Lab Technician. Additionally, Miles Beard, Advanced Culinary trainee gave a beautiful performance singing our National Anthem.
Though our Summer graduation has come and gone, the mission never ends here. There will be more students walking on to our center with a purpose and we plan to prepare them with the tools and knowledge they need to find a career.
ACHIEVING TOGETHER, BENEFITS ALL
