Office Administration trainee, Eboni Hill, has recently been on a Work-Based Learning (WBL) assignment at Congresswoman Barbara Lee’s office in Oakland, California. Eboni impressed the Congresswoman’s staff with her qualifications and professionalism during the application and interview processes and was hand-selected to participate in this WBL opportunity. She is enjoying her experience and is positively representing Treasure Island Job Corps. Eboni’s site supervisor, Max Chen, who recently took the time to take a photograph with Eboni, has consistently expressed praise for her work ethic and positive attitude.
During her time in WBL, Eboni has embraced the responsibilities and fast-paced work environment of the Congresswoman’s office. She has taken on a variety of duties and projects, honing her skills in filing, writing, and typing to successfully complete tasks such as creating excel spreadsheets, word documents, and professional emails. Gaining certification in OPACs, GMetrix, and especially Certiport through her Office Administration trade classes has helped Eboni succeed. The friendly work environment and kindness of the staff have also helped Eboni feel welcome and part of the team at Congresswoman Barbara Lee’s office.
Eboni has benefitted from the opportunity to gain work experience in a real office setting, as it relates to her job training. The structure of the WBL program has allowed Eboni to prepare to enter a career in Office Administration. She has accepted positive feedback on her improved communication skills, organization, and time management. She even stated that, “I’m blessed to have the honor of starting my experience working in the Federal Building. I’ve learned how to assist people with various question and remain sweet and calm when things get hectic.” Working at Congresswoman Barbara Lee’s Office has made Eboni feel that the Office Administration career path is perfect for her.
