BEING “BARRERE” – A Closer Look

BEING “BARRERE” – A Closer Look

[Question] Where did you grow up?

[Sean] Livingston, Montana

[Question] What was your childhood like?

[Sean] I had an amazing childhood in one of the most beautiful places on the planet. My mother raised me and my three older brothers in a very loving and healthy environment. My family though, is a little bit out of the ordinary; my mom is an astrologist but she is one of the best people in the world.

[Question] In your early years, who was the most influential person in your life?

[Sean] My father probably influenced me the most. He left when I was about three years old but he was and still is a very big part of my life. Being a son, my father is the one I always looked up to.

[Question] What made you want to attend the Job Corps Program?

[Sean] I heard about the Forestry and Fire Fighting program from my step-mother and I decided to take a leap. Plus, Job Corps helped my brother with a career so it must be good! Ha!

[Question] Why conservation?  What interest you in the subject?

[Sean] It is just my element. Montana has been my backyard all of my life; it is just natural for me, a good fit. It is something I can do and love to do.

[Question] If you did not attend Job Corps, where would you be?

[Sean] I would probably be stuck in my town, working some sort of unskilled labor and not exploring the possibilities that are out there.

[Question] How has the Job Corps Program changed your life?

[Sean] When you come from a small Montana town like me you don’t experience much diversity. Job Corps though, is a melting pot of diversity! You learn to understand and deal with a lot of different people and situations which really helps you mature as a person.

[Question] How would you describe Job Corps to someone who had never heard of the program?

[Sean] It’s a training program that helps you get on a right track and get your head on straight if you need that. You can leave Job Corps with ambition, a desire to do something positive with your life. Even if you don’t continue with your chosen trade, it helps you take a leap toward something positive, to jump into a completely different environment and figure out where you want to go!

[Question] What types of skills have you learned through Job Corps or through life experience?

[Sean] I have learned from the experience. I have confidence that no matter what situation I am faced with, I can now handle it in a mature manner.

[Question] How have you changed because of the Job Corps experience?

[Sean] I have direction for my life now. I went from not knowing what I wanted to do with my life to find something great, something I am really happy with.

[Question] Do you have a deeper appreciation of nature and the environment because of this experience?

[Sean] More so than I did! Nature and the environment is a beautiful gift for us to have.

[Question] What kind of work would you most like to do when you leave the Job corps program?

[Sean] I would like to go to college to study plants and animals in preparation for a career in ecology or the sciences.

[Question] If you could step into your absolute dream job tomorrow, what would it be and why?

[Sean] Dream job? Hmmm….I would like to be an inventor. I would invent things to help break us free from the problems that many people deal with.

[Question] Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

[Sean] In 5 years I see myself having graduated college, traveling around the world and having a career in Forestry of Biology.

[Question] Do you envision a career with the Forest Service in your future?

[Sean] Possibly. The USFS has lots of opportunities.

[Question] What would you tell young kids who are thinking of entering Job Corps?

[Sean] Don’t be afraid to explore the opportunities at Job Corps; if you need help, Job Corps and Trapper Creek is a great place to start!
