Weber Basin Job Corps joins the Forest Service in support of the LGBTQIA2S+ Community

Weber Basin Job corps was so excited to be invited to participate in the Pride Parade with the Forest Service, Uintah Wasatch Cache. Six students, Center Director Jason Talbot and Liaison Officer Tammy Humphrey were invited to join in the festivities and actually walk in the parade. The morning started by arriving in the staging area where we were met by multiple federal staff from the Forest Service, BLM and Fish and Wildlife Division. Everyone was so excited to be able to support the LBGTQIA2S+ community and showcase the amazing diversity in the USDA. Once the parade actually started and we came around the corner of the official parade route we were met with roaring applause and excitement from the spectators. It continued non stop for the entire parade route of 2 miles. I have never been involved in something where so much positivity and support were coming from the spectators. I’m sure multiple participants still feel the effects of waving the pride flags and high fiving hands of the spectators. I think they really loved Smokey the Bear because they kept chanting his name. It was definitely an experience that our students and myself will never forget. It is a true testament that we can come together and show love and support for all human beings no matter what our differences might be. Weber Basin will definitely be participating again next year and hope to have a much larger presence. Thank you to the Uintah Wasatch Cache for the opportunity to be part of something so amazing.
