When the call for community volunteers came out, the St. Louis Job Corps students responded. Project Compassion reached out to St. Louis citizens to collect water for Flint Michigan with a goal of 1000 cases of water. The community responded with more than 10 times that amount. They were overwhelmed with the logistics of loading and shipping the water. They then reached out to the St. Louis Job Corps students who responded by giving up their Saturday morning to assist in helping to load the over 10,000 cases of water on to several tractor trailers. Our Student Government Association Community Liaison Jobarri Hudson met with the Center Business Community Liaison to make the connection. He then took the information back to the student body and assisted in organizing our students into action. They took 13 students and two staff to assist in loading the trucks. By the end of the day all 10,000 cases of water were on their way to Flint Michigan to help supply safe drinking water. Job Corps students all across the nation spend thousands of hours each year assisting local communities. Here in St. Louis our students have a goal of 2000 hours for the first half of the year. Job Corps in action brings training, community service, and education together to create the industry leaders of tomorrow’s workforce.
