Every year Portland, Oregon celebrates the Rose Festival, a two week period filled with parades, fun runs, Ferris wheels and fireworks. The 106 year old tradition culminates with the Grand Floral Parade, which took place on June 7th this year.
Volunteers gather to decorate the Grand Floral Parade floats and for the third year a team of Springdale students joined other volunteers to add flower seeds and blossoming flowers to the intricate float designs.
The Service Based Learning opportunity was coordinated by Springdale’s Career Services Director, Kendra Watson. “This is an opportunity for our students to use what they learn on center to solve real-life problems. They have the opportunity to actively contribute to our community members through the service they perform.”
Springdale Job Corps Center students were excited to be part of such an iconic symbol of Portland. We look forward to continuing to volunteer for the Rose Festival Grand Floral Parade and to show our community how involved Springdale students like to be.
