On Friday, June 17th PIVOT students and staff welcomed Representative Suzanne Bonamici. Representative Bonamici met with Site Director Tyna Moreschi, PIVOT Enrollment Specialist Breanna Canda, and Springdale Business & Community Liaison Anna Snyder. The topics discussed ranged from enrollment to the types of jobs students get after they leave the program. In addition to the representative, PIVOT also hosted local television station KOIN 6.
Student Emma Kathan was also interviewed by the TV crew. She talked about her time at PIVOT and what she was getting out of the program. “I felt stuck after I left high school,” she told the news crew. “I’ve trained in Office Administration and Medical Office Support. They’ve […] prepared me on how to enter community college when I finish.” Emma’s interview can be found at http://koin.com/2016/06/17/bonamici-tours-pivot-job-corps-center/
Congresswoman Bonamici sees the value in job training programs like Job Corps. “Job training programs–like PIVOT–are essential to building the workforce our economy needs and expanding opportunities for everyone. I appreciate PIVOT’s leadership in providing educational and career readiness training to young women in the Portland metro area. Whether they are headed to college or into the workforce, students will benefit from the skills they learn at PIVOT.”
PIVOT and Springdale JCCs appreciate the continued support of Congresswoman Bonamici!
