Mackins Auto Body Partners with Springdale Job Corps

Frank Jozaitis knows what it takes to get ahead in the Auto Body Industry. As he’s been in the industry for over 30 years, he knows that it takes initiative, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to start at the bottom in order to get to the top. Frank is the Paint Trainer for Mackin’s Auto Body, which has seven shops in the Portland, Oregon area. Mackins and Springdale Job Corps have worked together to match qualified Auto Body employees to Mackins employment needs. Over the past year, between the two sites, Mackins has helped train 7 students through work based learning. One of those students, Carlos Almonte, will be graduating from the program in January. While at Mackins Carlos learned technical skills such as setting up the frame rack machine, but perhaps more importantly, he learned “how it is in a real shop.” Carlos states, “at Mackins you’re on their time, and the cars just keep coming in. You’ve got to keep on schedule.” Carlos hopes to follow in the footsteps of Auto Body student Alex Hayes, and find a job in the industry in the next couple months. Alex was hired full time at Mackins and will be graduating in December. At a recent Industry Council meeting, Frank talked about the importance of having a strong work ethic, and being willing to start at the bottom. Mackins has benefited from Springdale’s students. Frank states that the students they’ve worked with “have good attitudes, are ambitious to be in the industry, and it’s been good for the company.” Springdale appreciates the great job Mackins does mentoring, training, and providing our students with the first step toward their careers.
