Let Spirit Week Move You at Springdale JCC

In celebration of the incredible spirit and culture at Springdale Job Corps Center, students and staff participate in Spirit Week February 15th through the 19th. Each day was assigned a theme, including Pajama Day, Twin Day, and Springdale Spirit where students were encouraged to put on their best interpretation of what the spirit of Springdale is. Each day staff judged students’ interpretation of the theme and were awarded team and individual points. The team with the most points at the end of the week were given a host of prizes, including late start, breakfast in the dorms, an extra jeans day, and a gift card. Not only was there a competition for teams, there was also awards given for Spirit Week Queen and King with a whole host of additional prizes. Health Occupations students Andreana Oneida and Elvis Sanchez won the respective titles.

Activities included a poetry competition, a resume rap battle, Career Success Standards in Your Own Words where students used their own interpretation to describe Job Corps’ Career Success Standards. Recreation held volleyball games, coloring contests, and dodge ball competitions to award even more points.

Capping off the entire week was the annual Red Cross Blood Drive. Students and staff both signed up to donate blood. Kitchen Staff Erin Sandaal signed up to get her that much closer to the 2-gallons donated mark. “While we won’t know if we reached our goal until a little later, anything we can do to help is great,” explained Business & Community Liaison Anna Snyder. “If we reached our 43-pint goal one of our ACT student will be awarded a scholarship. It’s really exciting!”

Thank you to all the students and staff who embraced the fun of Spirit Week. Here’s to a great year!
