Holidays Bring Springdale’s Traditional Gingerbread Competition

Springdale’s students enjoyed a holiday tradition; the annual trade gingerbread house competition. Each trade is given a gingerbread house kit and spend some time during the day adding to it, making it unique to their trade. Office Administration has for the past two years taken a fantasy and science fiction turn, with this year’s house turning in to Hogwarts Castle from the Harry Potter book series.

The winner was Pharmacy Technology, earning the trade a certificate and a special party when students return after break.

“Students and staff vote on the gingerbread houses during our craft fair,” explained Career Services Director Rachel Lupole. “This year the winner won with one single vote separating it from 2nd place. It gets really competitive!” The craft fair is another holiday tradition, with students visiting different stations set up in the gym to make fleece scarves, paper roses, clothespin reindeer, and other crafts. A member of staff takes charge of each station, helping students make little gifts and treats to take home to their families.

Second place was Office Administration’s Hogwarts with Auto Body Paint bringing up 3rd place. “A little competition between the trades is good and helps students take ownership of their fun and learning,” continued Rachel. “We want to remind them that no matter what, they deserve to have a little fun.”
