SBJCA Celebrates 60th Anniversary

On Friday, August 2nd, 2024 South Bronx Job Corps Academy celebrated its 60th Anniversary. Job Corps is the largest and longest-running residential career training program in the United States. Since its beginning in 1964, it has transformed the lives of over two million young people by equipping them with the academic and vocational skills necessary for meaningful and lasting employment.

Tom Dreitlein, South Bronx Job Corps Learning Program Director MCed the event, while guest speakers included Assemblymember Yudelka Tapia, Lisa Sorin, President of the Bronx Chamber of Commerce, and Council Member Althea Stephens shared their experiences working with the center during their careers.

This program offers career technical skills training in 7 high-growth industries at the South Bronx location, from healthcare to Information Technology, ensuring that young people are prepared to thrive in the nation’s fastest-growing sectors. The program’s comprehensive support, including high school completion, career transition assistance, and even housing and healthcare, empowers students to achieve success.

We are honored to be part of this incredible program. Here’s to 60 years of making a difference and many more to come!

Special shoutout to the talented students who shared their photos from the event: Marcos Maldanado, Jibril Stanford, and Supreme King.
