SNJCC welcomed United States Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid as the keynote speaker for its August 27, 2010 graduation ceremony. Reid spoke to the 114 graduates about his own personal life struggles, first growing up poor in a small rural Nevada mining town and later trying to make ends meet with a wife and small child.
The senator’s message to students was clear: remember those who said you wouldn’t amount to anything, as they can become your inspiration for succeeding in life.
The senator spoke of the pride he felt when looking around the room at the students as they prepared to move from Job Corps into the next phase of their education and careers. Reid received a standing ovation for his speech and his support of SNJCC’s students.
Also in attendance were the Department of Labor’s San Francisco Regional Director Brian Daher, District Representative for Senator John Ensign, Tracy Soliday and approximately 300 family members, friends, SNJCC students and staff members.
