In the Spring, the Regional Environmental Council entered an agreement with the Worcester Red Sox to construct and operate a rooftop garden/urban farm, designated WooSox Farms, at Polar Park. The REC’s YouthGROW program have plans that staff from both the REC and the youth program will grow a variety of vegetables that will be cultivated and distributed to Worcester’s most food insecure neighborhoods. The first stage was to have 40 planters built by the end of August and the Shriver Carpentry students were able to complete this first stage on time. Shown here is Jose Gomez and Jahkeem Edwards with the completed planters. More of these planters will be expected by the end of March, 2022 and a final batch done by March of 2023. Much press attention will be made regarding this project so we are very proud of our Carpentry Instructors and these students to have the talent and ability to get the job done. A great project for the Carpentry students! Special thanks to our Paint Instructor and his students who helped with the finishing touches.
