Shriver Student Speaks to Chelmsford Rotary Members

Dominique Mosley Graves, a CNA student at Shriver Job Corps spoke at the recent Chelmsford Rotary Club meeting in January 2016. Mr. Graves was accompanied by the Outreach and Admissions Counselor, Denise Perrault. The Chelmsford Rotary invited the OA Counselor to do a presentation of Shriver Job Corps and life on the Center. What better way to describe the program than to ask a student to share their personal experience?
Ms. Perrault spoke about how the application process works for interested students. She explained an interview with the student is set up, the paperwork is processed and the file is then handed over to various departments. There were many members in attendance who are also employers and active members in the community and were asking about the students, the program, the safety aspect and what type of training they receive.
It was beneficial to have a student present his experience with Shriver Job Corps. He explained the training involved and the skills he has obtained. He also explained the typical life on center which includes meals, trips, driver-ed training, education, com-munity service, outreach and importantly learning work ethics. There were many members who thought that only troubled kids attended Job Corps. The presentation that Dominique gave changed their minds about what pre-conceived notions they had. They now feel that Job Corps is really a great program for the youth.
Charles Keen, a Chelmsford Rotarian mentioned to Ms., Perrault, “Thank you for your informative presentation, bringing Dominique was a good choice. He made a strong impression.” Presenting at the meeting was a great experience for both Dominque and Ms. Perrault and the Chelmsford Rotary.
