Hammering things out for St. Patricks Day Parade

Hammering things out for St. Patricks Day Parade

A few months back, Carpentry instructors, Mr. Akers and Mr. Basilio, took delivery of the Carpenters Local #107’s (their union) Mechanical Hammer for a rebuild. The hammer was damaged and worn out when it arrived. After the hammer was stripped down and repaired by carpentry students Gwen Payne, Giordanni Mateo, and Erica DeCosta, it was sent over to Mr. Yost at the Paint shop for a new paint job. Due to this project being time sensitive, Mr. Yost put his 1st year apprentices from the Painters Local Union #257 to work on it. After the apprentices primed and finished painting the hammer, the Carpentry instructors decided on changing the color of the hammer’s handle to green. That was not a problem. Paint student Tyquille Sims easily painted the green on the hammer with time to spare.
This project was completed as a collaboration between 2 trades at Shriver and 2 Local Labor Unions. The Hammer is now ready to be part of this year’s St. Patricks day parade in Worcester, along with Mr. Akers, Mr. Basilio, and the Shriver Carpentry students.
