Community Service

Eight Shreveport Job Corps Culinary Arts students participated as servers in the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center National Hispanic Heritage Month Program. The theme of the program was “Many Backgrounds, Many Stories, One American Spirit.” The guest speaker was Guillermo “Willie” Ortiz-Caceres, USAF Retired Chief Master Sergeant, Bossier Parish Community College Adjunct Instructor, and Sales Representative for the Radio Group. He spoke about different Hispanic cultures, the roles Hispanics are playing in the military and in our country as a whole. The students served chicken and cheese enchiladas, Spanish rice, and other Hispanic dishes. It was not only fun for our students, but very informative as well. Students that participated in this community service event were Shawn Stewart, Timothy Gonzales, Ashley Capers, Caleb Strahan, Kardaishia Myers, Kailani Miles, Ebony McMillan, and Chance Ascencio.
