On October 17th, President Barack Obama kicked off his three-day American Jobs Act Bus Tour in Asheville, North Carolina. At the Asheville Regional Airport, President Obama delivered remarks on the American Jobs Act to an excited crowd.
When the Student Government Association (SGA) from the Schenck Job Corps Civilian Conservation Center (SJCCCC) heard that the President was coming to town, they couldn’t think of a better event to attend! They went a day in advance to snag tickets for the event, an event that they couldn’t dream of missing.
As the leadership figures for SJCCCC, they wanted to see top leadership at work, and they were not disappointed. The students were very impressed with the President’s speech, as Sergeant-at-Arms Kajerrel Pride remarked “It’s a moment that I will never forget!”
The students were also reminded that the President is not that different from them. SGA President Genard Thorpe commented “Before going to see Obama, he seemed more like a celebrity, but when he got off the plane, it made me realize that he’s an everyday American like me.”
That afternoon, the Schenck leaders were excited to get back to the center and begin a renewed sense of leadership.
