Job Corps Students Celebrate and Serve Veterans at San Jose Veterans Center

On June 4, 2011 Staff and Students of the San Jose Job Corps Center spent the day in the pouring rain to cook BBQ and serve our local Veterans at the 11th Annual Veterans Appreciation Day event held at the San Jose Veterans Centers.

Job Corps Technical Counselor Brian Hunter said “This is one of my favorite events; the students have such a great time interacting with the veterans.  This opportunity allows them to give back and share their appreciation with others.”

Leslie Gilroy, the Center Director stated “I am proud of our students.  We challenge our students to be community minded and these types of volunteer opportunities allow students to meet people, practice their technical skills and interview skills.”

Job Corps has participated in this special activity as a way of thanking our Men and Women who are serving or have served in our Nation’s Military Forces.

City Council members Rose Herrera and Xavier Compos as well as Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors President Dave Cortese joined other dignitaries to acknowledge and applaud our Veterans.
