San Diego Job Corps Thirty-First Anniversary

In September, the San Diego Job Corps Center celebrated the thirty-first anniversary of the opening of the center. The Center is part of the Navy Outlying Field in Imperial Beach CA. This Navy facility for helicopters is situated on 1,204 acres and is known as the “The Helicopter Capital of the World”.

The San Diego Job Corps Center has grown from 130 students when it first opened to a population of 665 students and nearly 250 staff members.  The center offers 19 Career Technical Training courses in the Schools of Business and Hospitality, Health Care, and Construction. Advanced Career Training is also offered at Southwestern College in Chula Vista, Ca.

Students and staff participated in a barbeque and carnival to celebrate the anniversary.  Ten staff members were recognized for service of more than twenty-five years on the center.
