“There are great opportunities in the information technology field when you graduate from Job Corps,” advised San Diego Job Corps graduate Gabriel Trujillo. Trujillo recently spoke to students in the Computer Technology Career Technical Training Program at the center. “Get in, get done, and get out,” he added.
Trujillo, currently an Information Technology Specialist in the U.S. Navy assigned in Italy, graduated from the San Diego Job Corps Center two years ago. He shared, “I earned my A+Technician certification here, and am using many of the skills I learned in my current assignment. I plan on making the Navy my career.”
One of the persons listening to Trujillo speak was former Job Corps Computer Technology instructor Agustin Perez. Perez also served in the military and later was a civil service employee with the Navy. “I am proud of Gabriel and what he is doing with his life,” he stated. “It was especially gratifying to see his transformation while he was enrolled at Job Corps. He learned from his mistakes, focused on his goals, and is realizing his goals in the military.”
“Since I’m on leave, I decided to visit the center and talk to students about my experience here, and in the military,” Trujillo stated. Trujillo’s younger brother is currently enrolled in the center’s Health Care Career Technical Training Program. “It’s a great program. I received a lot of guidance and support from staff, especially from Mr. Perez. It’s a good feeling to be able to encourage and help others now.”
