Interviewed at her office in Mira Mesa, CA, Lydia Flores, Owner and President of American Insulation Inc. offered praise for newly-hired San Diego Job Corps graduate Chantal Roman. “Since Chantal began working here in April, she has always been on time for work, gets along well with her co-workers, and is a good worker,” Flores advised.
American Insulation Inc., a minority, woman-owned business, specializes in weatherizing and insulation installation for commercial, residential, and remodeling projects. They are one of the subcontractors for the SDG&E Energy Saving Assistance Program, and have additional offices in Riverside and Turlock CA.
Flores stated that her customers and employees reflect the diverse population of California, and Chantal, being bilingual, has been an asset at the company. “Job Corps provided excellent training for me, in a number of areas,” Chantal stated. “Job Corps has a diverse population and multi-cultural awareness is one of the Career Success Standards we learn throughout our Job Corps program.”
Chantal enrolled at Job Corps in April, 2011 and earned her high school diploma while completing Job Corps’ Carpentry Career Technical Training trade. “Chantal has excellent leadership skills,” advised one of her Carpentry trade instructors, Wally Husted. “She became a mentor to new students entering the trade, and also spoke each week to prospective students touring the center.” Fellow Carpentry instructor Ed Miles agreed with Husted, and added that “Chantal was a good student who paid attention to detail, and displayed an excellent work ethic.”
“I realize I have a lot to learn here,” Chantal continued, “but everyone has helped me, especially my work partner Ruby who has a lot of experience with the company.” Flores advised that Chantal was well-trained and well-prepared by Job Corps for her job. “I would certainly hire more Job Corps graduated in the future,” she added.
