“Dress for Success Day” at San Diego Job Corps
On September 10, 2010 students and staff participated in “Dress for Success Day” at the San Diego Job Corps Center.
“We hold this event periodically on center,” said event organizer, Ann McPherson, Career Transition Specialist. “The clothes are donated by the center staff and students can select clothes to wear for job interviews and later on have clothes for the workplace.”
One of the students obtaining clothes was Daniel L., a student in the center’s Computer Career Technical Training course. “This is great. I found a shirt, tie, and slacks that I can wear when I interview for a job, plus I can also use them for social events.”
During the lunch hour, students and staff who were “Dressed for Success” held a rally in the center’s cafeteria. They held signs, danced to music, and walked around the cafeteria as role models for students. During the event students were asked a variety of questions about job interviewing techniques and prizes were awarded for the best answers.
“This was a fun day,” stated Career Transition Services Manager Ruby Brown. “We always try to mix the practical aspects of an event with fun activities for the students. I really appreciate our staff contributing so many clothes, and everyone’s enthusiasm in making this day a success”.
