Congressman Bob Filner Tours the San Diego Job Corps Center
U.S. Representative Bob Filner toured the San Diego Job Corps Center on September 7, 2010. Congressman Filner represents the 51st Congressional District, California, one of the most ethnically diverse districts in the nation. First elected to Congress in 1992, he serves as the Chairman of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs.
During his visit Congressman Filner visited several Academic and Career Technical Training classrooms and spoke with students and staff. He asked a variety of questions about student training and their preparation for the ever-changing U.S. economy. He also observed first hand some of the training students were receiving, which included their involvement in green projects on center.
Congressman Filner introduced himself to the class of new students who had just arrived on center that morning and commended them for entering the program and starting a new life. He advised them that he was a long time supporter of Job Corps and was working with his colleagues to insure there would be good jobs available to them when they complete their studies.
