Sacramento Job Corps Woman’s basketball team won the 11th Annual”Shoot Out in the Desert” basketball tournament held in Tucson, AZ  November 18th- the 21st. This is the second time a SJCC team has won the championship banner, the first being in 2007. Three of our students made All Tournament team for both scoring and defensive play; they are Victoria Ewing, Keanna Phillips and Demetria Hardy.

The other members of this championship team at are Sarah Lee, Tiffanye Davis, Yvette  Velasquez, Kushaye Calvin, Kianna Aaron, Juana “Izzy” Guzman and Tashauna Brown.

These young ladies have worked very hard to become a championship team and performed with the utmost respect and sportsmanship. This event not only stretches but increases the character and the quality of each person. They return to campus  with a renewed sense of self and with the desire to complete all of the Job Corps goals set before them. Their coaches this year were Markus Benjamin and Bennie Walker.
