SodexoMAGIC has teamed up with the Sacramento Job Corps Center, Horizon Youth Services and invited students to partake in the culinary apprentice program. Sodexo manages the food service at Job Corps. The Plaza Cafe General Manager Carrie Rykert describes it as a thirteen week internship where the students train at each food station for two weeks. “It gives the students the opportunity to see and experience professional food service first hand, and decide if this is the career they would like to pursue. After their internship, students can apply to work for SodexoMAGIC. It also gives our staff the opportunity to share their knowledge with the students as they move from one station to the other”.
Before the students start the internship program they have already been trained in ServSafe, OSHA and CPR. They then receive culinary training at the Job Corps and learn how to cook breakfast, entrees, stock and sauce preparation, butchery, bakery, catering and how to run the front of the house.
