Vice Mayor, Sacramento City Council Bonnie Pannell was present and was a part of the exercise by welcoming everyone to SJCC spring 2011 graduation. The speaker was Frank Withrow who is a poet, retired educator and motivator. He was born in Washington D.C. He went to Fayetteville State Teacher’s College where he received his B.S. degree in Business Education in 1969. Mr. Wtihrow moved to Sacramento I 1972 where he enrolled in California State University-Sacramento and received Master’s Degree in Educational Administration. He was an educator for 34 years in Sacramento City Unified School District and retired in 2004.
Fifty-three students completed their trades and of those students eleven completed their GED at SJCC and six completed their High School diplomas through the SIATech high school program. Also two students received special awards from Senator Darrell Steinberg office which was presented by a representative Ana Negron. Daniel Ontiveros received most improved and Leah Evans received most outstanding student. Graduates represented Carpentry, Cement, Medical Assistance, Certified Nursing Assistance, Culinary Arts, Facilities Maintenance, Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Heavy Equipment Operator, HVAC, Hotel & Lodging, Landscaping, Office Administration and Security career technical training programs.
