On the morning of Thursday, April 20, 2017, all of the male students and staff were transported off the Center to Elk Grove Park to participate in an all-day “Men’s Empowerment Team Competition & Spirit Event”. The day included several team activities that featured each of the male dormitories competing in eight “field day events”. The field day events, which were competitive and designed to encourage teamwork and problem-solving strategies amongst both the student and staff participants, were as follows:
1. 4 X 4 Team Relay “Burlap Sack Race”,
2. Team “Three Point Shoot Out”,
3. Team “Horseshoe Throw”,
4. Team “Three Person Ski Patrol”
5. Team “Tug-of-War”
6. Team “Hit the Cutoff Man”
7. Team “Frisbee Golf”
8. Team “Football Throw”
A barbeque lunch was prepared by several staff volunteers and all students participated in cleaning up the park after the events were completed. By all accounts by students and staff, the event was a great success. The day was filled with genuine camaraderie, excellent behavior, great sportsmanship, and of course tasty barbequed hot dogs and hamburgers on toasted sesame buns.
Great job to the Men of the Sacramento Job Corps Center!
