Northern California Outreach and Admissions attended the Black Expo Job Readiness Fair that was held at the South Sacramento Christian Church. This event included community partners and businesses such as Anthem Blue Cross and independent restaurants and barbershop business owners sharing their information, offering their services and providing resources, leading to a packed facility with people seeking opportunities to better themselves. NCA OA was able to provide information about Job Corps, including weekly Information Sessions, Essential Admissions Requirements and benefits of the program. There were at least 5 Sacramento Job Corps Trainees that were able to assist NCA OA with sharing information on how the Job Corps program operates and how they have benefited from being a part of Job Corps. This was a good experience for the Trainees to share their positive experiences within the program to motivate others to seek the same for themselves. NCA OA also networked with other programs that provide similar services within the community, including a representative from the NAACP. NCA OA requested to be on the agenda for the next NAACP local chapter’s meeting to share information about Job Corps, perhaps leading to potential partnership. NCA OA also connected with a local advocate, Geraldine Hollis, from a church in Fairfield, CA. Mrs. Hollis discussed working with the youth and helping them make a difference in their life. She took informational handouts as well as materials that were a part of the Post Cards campaign for potential referrals from the church. NCA OA found the Black Expo to be an important event that included networking with partners and people within the community.
